A person who contaminated sweets with tranquilliser and distributed them to minors at a summer program in the area has confessed to sexual crimes against two boys who were nine and 10.
The defendant was arrested after eight minors and a grown-up experienced illness at the facility in the summer month.
The elderly man, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, pleaded guilty to a series of 17 offences when he stood at the judicial center on recently.
However, he denied one particular crime he was charged with, which was against a nine-year-old child.
Ruben was held in detention prior to a additional proceeding on late November.
'Candy game'
Mary Prior KC, prosecuting, outlined Ruben's offending to the judicial body.
She said his those affected were children from difficult backgrounds who were attending a summer program which he managed.
The man played a "candy game" with the minors, Mrs Prior explained, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were preparing to sleep and request they to consume candy "as fast as possible".
She stated to the judge the man had engaged in this activity with the young males "for many years", and children had previously become sick the following morning.
She said the man had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had concerns in summer 2025.
The legal representative added: "Recently" his stepson had concerns about the activities, justifiably.
"They decided to investigate in the man's possessions."
Mrs Prior KC explained items including infant oil, ointment and syringes were found, and his family member alerted the law enforcement about his suspicions.
She said the defendant went on to engage in the "candy game" with six youngsters that evening - July 26th - and they were all ill the next day.
"Authorities" had not gone out by that time," she added.
The regulatory agency, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, had stated that it was examining the police response of the situation.
Mrs Prior said the minors were having difficulty walking due to their sickness, so Ruben's stepson notified the law enforcement once more.
She stated Ruben then conducted the "treat game" in a space of five children.
