Micky van de Ven found the net on two occasions as Spurs extended their winning streak on the road in the Premier League and delivered Everton their first defeat at their new home.

The Toffees were unbeaten in their last five matches at their new ground at Bramley-Moore Dock, having departed their historic home behind after 133 years at the conclusion of last season.

But Spurs captain the Dutchman struck on two occasions from set-pieces in the opening 45 minutes to put their impressive record at jeopardy, and they were failed to turn it around before the midfielder - assisted by former Toffees attacker Richarlison - nodded in a third to seal the victory.

The Everton defender thought he had equalized the tally a short while after the defender's opener, glancing a powerful header past Guglielmo Vicario from an Everton corner.

Beto, meanwhile, missed a handful of opportunities, while the Italian goalkeeper made a succession of excellent stops to ensure the London club went five matches on the road without defeat in the Premier League.

But the video assistant referee stepped in, instructing Craig Pawson to check the goal on the pitchside monitor and the official decided that Jack Grealish and the attacker were in offside positions and had impeded with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

The win moves the manager's team up to third in the Premier League, five points off local foes and table-toppers Arsenal.

Everton remain 14th and sit six points clear of the drop zone.

Tottenham analysis: The defender fulfils role at each end of the field

After a drab weekday performance in the Champions League against Monaco, where they managed a only attempts on goal, the manager opted for Randal Kolo Muani in attack instead of ex-Everton forward Richarlison.

The new arrival was failed to make much of an impact before being replaced for the substitute after an hour on the field, but it emerged he wasn't needed in the end.

Centre-back the Dutchman converted into an offensive threat to be reckoned with.

Van de Ven was just as impressive in defence, partnering effectively with his defensive colleague as the pair dealt excellently with the numerous deliveries thrown their way by Everton.

Toffees breakdown: Everton lacking striker's instinct

Everton's recent stadium had been a fortress, but it seems the freshness may have worn off somewhat and fans flocked to the exits after the midfielder's final goal for Spurs.

The end in Everton's winning streak at home will not be a major worry for David Moyes, but their striker situation are.

Beto and Thierno Barry - the Toffees' two established strikers - had netted just a single goal between them before the weekend's outing.

And they were failed to add to that poor record on a wet and gloomy evening on Merseyside.

Beto's form was epitomized when he opted to overhead kick a clear chance from near the goal, despite having room and time to readjust for a simpler attempt that would have challenged the keeper.

The substitute, too, was unable to influence the game after replacing the starter in the 65th minute.

It wasn't for a shortage of opportunity. Most of the home side's attacks came through the winger and Ndiaye, who tirelessly whipped dangerous crosses into the Tottenham box.
